second verse, same as the firstYesterday I took a vacation day from work so that I could go play outside in the new snow. Turns out, I wasn't missing anything at work as the phones were down all day (and for 90% of my work orders I need to be able to call the customer). Today, I showed up to work and flipped my little badge at the card reader--but nothing happened. Seems the power was out. So I call one of my co-workers's cell phone - they're all hanging out at the McD's across the street. I tell them to call me when we can get in - I'm going to a little cafe nearby for breakfast and a cup of joe. At this point, I'm feeling kinda happy, as I'm getting out of an hour or so of work but will still get paid for it (as it is not our fault we couldn't work). By the time 8:45 rolls around (I've been "at work" since 7:30am), I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee at the cafe and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I call my co-worker to see what's up. Still nothing. So I drive back and sit in the parking lot with my car running (just like everyone else). FINALLY, the boss gets out of his car and tells us all to go home. The power came back on, but evidently that wasn't enough, as something with the security card readers had blown and there was no possible way to get into the building. Some company is going to have to take the door off and go inside the building and rewire a bunch of stuff and replace the system board.
So here, I am. At home - completely unexpectedly. With
almost nothing to do. I plan on using this time wisely. I'm going to try to finish out my cosplay for the con and re-arrange the files on my computer so that everything can sort of go back to normal. Heh.
