everything is breaking and it lifts my heart

If you read Nailz's blog from today, you will easily predict what I am about to say. Nailz's powers of foresight are pretty incredible. One of the first things I did this morning (right after the bathroom stop - of course) was call our landlord and leave him a 2-minute voicemail on his cell phone about the need for him to have someone check our air conditioner. In this message, I also told him that I would be calling his home phone to make sure that he got the voicemail. I felt like a mother reminding her child that she will be calling the parents of so-and-so who you claim to be spending the night at's house to make sure that that is what the real story is. After speaking with him briefly on his house phone, he promised to send someone in the afternoon to check it. I felt cautiously victorious.

In the meantime, I got out of the sticky, sticky hot apato to run some errands. First on the list was picking up my paycheck so I could actually pay what my errands might cost me. Walking into the corporate facility I work at was like a little piece of heaven - however short-lived. I briefly considered exchanging today's vacation day in for a work day if I could take the vacation day on one that was much cooler. Thank the gods for strong car a/c! On I continued on my mission...

I had early in the morning thought how cool (literally) it would be to purchase the smallest available (and cheapest, if possible) window air conditioner for the living room and then have Nailz come home to a really nice and cool apato. It was this idea that drove me (again literally) to go to 4 different places to find one. All 4 stores were either completely sold out or did not carry them in the first place. While I was kind of disappointed that there wouldn't be any cool surprise waiting for Nailz at the end of the work day, I was also a bit relieved that I didn't have to spend $100 or more just because of how batty the heat drives me.

On the way back home, I stopped at the mall to pick up some custom ordered bangs (for cosplay - of course) from the kiosk I had ordered them from. In the mall there is a little Asian import store. I have been (not-so) secretly in love with the man who owns it since I met him. I always stop in if he is working (which is rare, as he does not work weekends or evenings, so it has to be on a normal business day) and purchase at least something small. I held true to my tradition when I saw that he was working today. I always talk to him a bit and I think he sees me as one of his main Otaku consultants. Today he brought up the fact that he is really short on part-time help and has been working insane amounts of hours recently. He asked that if I knew anyone who would be interested in the position to refer them to him. I can't believe my bravery, but I told him that I was, in fact, looking for part time work. He seemed happy at the idea and gave me an application to turn in. I don't know if I will do it, because it would really cut into my anime watching and manga reading time. At the same time, my pocketbook is screaming at me to at least give it a shot. Well, and there is the little part of me that would rejoice at being able to see him more often. *blush*

SO...Back to the original story. So I purposely made sure I was back in the apato shortly after noon because I didn't want to miss the air conditioning guy and have him leave without doing anything. I lazed around the apato for a couple-three hours until he came. At first, it looked doubtful that he was going to do anything. He said something about going to check and see if they had any air conditioners left at some never-specified location. I thought he was talking about a used air conditioner - which I didn't mind as long as it actually worked. He asked if I would be here the rest of the afternoon and if I had had any plans at that moment, they would have been cancelled without any hesitation. He said he would be back in a while to replace the broken a/c. I was sitting on the step outside (because even a hot breeze is better than hot, stale apato air) when my landlord pulled up with a trailer behind his truck and in the trailer was a brand new, still-in-the-box air conditioner. I about cried with joy and relief. Currently, the apato is still hot and sticky, but it is much cooler than before - now I am only dripping sweat every so often instead of constantly. Huzzah!

So that was the story of my incredibly boring and (mostly) unproductive day (oh wait - I made 2 trays of ice for the freezer too...I'm so motivated...).

Oh - and obviously - I am back from vacation in one of the Southern parts of Dakota territory. The middle of the land is dead. Drought severity level 4. I feel lucky to be able to still see at least a hint of green in the lawn...
