it was a cold night...... And you thought I was bluffing! <--when I said I would update either here or LJ every day this month. Ha!
Well, it just so happens that I have things to write about tonight.
Today was a national holiday in Japan (Culture Day), so I had the day "off" from work. Well, every town and city in Japan does something for Culture Day. My town has a few events and a bunch of things displayed in the town gym. Everything from bonsai, to calligraphy, to quilting, to the art of every grade- and junior high schooler in town. The library also had a fair and in the afternoon there were drumming, dance and band performances. All-in-all not REALLY a day off at all. Luckily, being the foreigner and not expected to a) contribute in anyway (since I am not Japanese) and b) know what is going on, I was able to drift in and out of displays and the library fair without too much fuss or fanfare. I did see quite a few of my students and some even said hello.
I did have every intention of going to the afternoon performances, but I ended up getting inspired to use the zucchini in the fridge before it went bad. I wanted to make chocolate zucchini bread, but needed a few ingredients. I went out in search of semi-sweet chocolate chips, cocoa powder, shredded coconut and chopped nuts. I found 3 our of the 4. I couldn't find the shredded coconut and the nuts I found were not chopped, but I bought them anyway. I'll tell you, nothing feels better than crushing some nuts to get some pent up frustrations out. Hammer + sealed bag of nuts = awesome fun! Also, since chocolate chips are $5 for a 1/4c-size bag, I just bought some bar chocolate and broke it off into little pieces into the batter. I think I absorbed some chocolate by osmosis (if osmosis is defined by a hand-to-mouth motion) during that whole process and my fingers ended up all chocolaty. Mmm....
Now the first pan is in the oven. I've decided to do one loaf and then cupcakes with the rest of the batter. Mmm.....cupcakes....
In other, much more exciting news, The Decemberists are releasing a new album in January. I am SUPER EXCITED! I was notified via email through the fanclub mailings. I love being in fanclubs. It makes me feel young and hip. ??? Maybe only in my world? Ha ha. Still, it's nice to get news right away.
