Random Rambles:
Tonight I went to Christmas mass with my parents for the first time in years. I tried to figure out how many years it had been since I had been to a Catholic mass - but I couldn't remember. Maybe about 10 years. Some things have changed - responses and songs. It threw me off because even after all this time, I still have automatic responses.
It was a very odd thing going to mass not only because it had been a long time, but also because I am not Catholic (well, not anymore, anyway). In fact, I'm atheist. I don't (obviously) have any beef with religion (unless it is used as a reason to kill, hurt or repress people). I went to mass because being in church doesn't bother me and because I know that it makes my parents happy. I don't know if they know I'm atheist (maybe it would break my mother's heart), but they do know that at the very least I am a no-longer-practicing Catholic.
I don't tell many people of my religious views. It seems that it is awkward for all involved to discuss it. Because my view is divergent from what seems like a majority of people, it kind of is in my best interest to not make it a big deal. In some ways, I guess I would be a
closeted atheist. (That link is to an amazing TedX talk by the way.) And today's "Random Ramble" is kind of like taking a peak out of my atheist closet.
* Mission accomplished - I have no idea what happened that day. Ha!
