there's a twinkle in my dying eyes0800 hrs:*sigh* And so begins another day. My suspicions are confirmed: entering my workplace relegates any personality I normally have to the back burner during work hours. There were two things I was going to blog about right away - but can I remember them? Hell no....
0933 hrs:Could be having fun working in the 80,000+ record database right now, but instead have been doing some online training (read "reading boring facts and then being quizzed on them") about the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. I think I had always had an inkling about the truth of our financial and business systems here in the U.S., but now I feel just how much it is deeply buried and hidden in language. Because of this, the financial system is opaque to the common person; only with education and serious study can one begin to 'see' what really goes on - the glass looking in on the gears of money starts to become more transparent, little by little. I am really stunned at just how ambiguous all of the language surrounding financial disclosure and regulation is. The language that is meant to make things more cut-and-dried and transparent to investors and regulators has only managed to blur the edges and allow room for wiggling.
1332 hrs:Seems that everyone in the office is in a really good mood today. I think I can safely say that a lot of people are just happy that 2008 is over. 2009 seems to be full to the brim with the possibility of being a really good year. I don't think I've ever looked forward to one year ending and another beginning as much as I have this one. 2008 feels especially tired and worn down. Is it all in my mind?
Also, tonight is going to be one of the most laid back New Year's Eves in the last 10 years of the ones I've had while in the United States. Last year's New Year's Eve was completely uneventful. I was in the desert, so no alcohol to be had and 2008 really just felt like more of the same - like an extended 2007. Nailz and I will be going to a thrown-together-at-the-last-minute New Year's Eve party. Good thing too, or the upstairs neighbors might negate my first New Year's resolution, which is to not inadvertently kill anyone.

somehow i'm keepin' it steady0814 hrs:Good morning. Ah~! I am happy that it is Friday. My day started out kind of rough when I almost got rear-ended on my way to work. Some people drive like they've never driven in snow before, or better yet - as if the roads haven't been sh1tty for the past week. It always amazes me that their vehicles aren't all banged up.
Had a hard time sleeping last night. I don't think I really fell into a good sleep until after 1am. The upstairs neighbors were stomping around above my room, so I kept getting woken up. It was one of those hazy sleeps where you're stuck in between the land of waking and the land of dreaming. I try not to think about how much sleep I've lost over the past few months because of the upstairs neighbors being noisy until the middle of the night. At some point, we won't live there anymore, and I think Nailz will agree that that day will be a
very happy day.
Went lap swimming last night. This is the last night the pool will be open until January 7th. *sadness* I really enjoy lap swim. I feel like I am getting some good benefits from it and it is becoming easier. When I first started swimming again, I could barely do 10 laps, now I do 28 - 30 laps easily!
As the new year approaches, I have been thinking about some resolutions to make. It is always hard to for me to make resolutions because I usually just generalize and there is no way of enforcing them on myself. I guess a good one would be to stay smoke free for all of 2009. This will be the first time in 10 years that I haven't brought in the new year with a cigarette. How cool is that? That's exciting, that's what that is!!
1322 hrs:The boss is gone today, so things have been really pretty quiet and happy around here. Everyone in the office seems to be getting a lot done, because there is a ton or rejoicing going on. I am going with the flow and getting quite a bit accomplished as well. Just about to organize and wipe off my desk. I haven't cleaned my desk since...*thinks* September or so? It's super dusty and has coffee cup rings all over and sticky notes everywhere. I'm sure there are crumbs under the keyboard. *grimaces and tries not to think about it*
In other news, I've been rocking out to Weezer's "Deluxe" album all day. I've just been playing it on loop. Because I have earbuds, I don't have to worry about it annoying my cow-orkers, so I really have at. Sometimes, I get into to a certain groove and if it feels good, so I don't feel like disrupting it by putting in a different album - especially when all the other stuff I have here at work has a totally different vibe than this album. I might want to change modes later in the afternoon, but for now, Weezer it is!! XD
1503 hrs:I never thought working in an Access Database of over 80,000 records would be so fun! <__<>__>

she had no heart so hardened1023 hrs:Just got out of a meeting. Man - it felt like it would go on forever! I forgot to buy a lottery ticket last night, so I had no chance of calling in rich today. I will have to remember to buy one on Saturday. Wouldn't it be awesome to win? One can always dream.
I guess I don't have much to say. I have a lot of work to do this month and it feels like no time to do it in. I'm not going to give up this small pleasure of blogging twice a day because otherwise, I wouldn't get a break. I am still smoke-free, so I don't get the 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon anymore like I used to. Tomorrow I will have been smoke-free for 50 days. Go me!
1135 hrs:Today, I have proven to myself that sometimes if you just sit on a problem long enough, it will resolve itself. Those are my favorite types of problems! That may sound bad, but sometimes when something is not urgent and you put it aside for more important issues, the other problem just quietly resolves itself and when you go back to work on it, there is no need. Wouldn't it be nice if most of life's problems were like that?
1438 hrs:and when i'm dreaming i know that it's all rightI really do not like the end of the year when it comes to work anyway. There's always a mad dash to the 31st and then everything seems to come to a screaming halt. Also, the darkness of the season makes it feel like one endless night.
I keep thinking I had something to say, but apparently, I don't. *sigh* OH! <--inspiration strikes
I was going to write that one of my New Year's resolutions is going to be to think before I speak. While I sometimes do this anyway and in the right social situations I am good at filtering myself - I think I still need to work on it.
