it's a hard time waiting for tomorrow, it's a long, long way home

0813 hrs:
Ah. FINALLY FRIDAY! *v. happy* I hope today goes quickly.

When I came in to work this morning, I was the first person here. It was strange because I was only 2 minutes early. As per usual, I went in to the kitchen to put my lunch in the fridge and to cut up my morning apple. When I came back to my desk, miraculously everyone was here as if they had been here all this time (even though it was only a few minutes that I was in the kitchen).

I'm listening to John Denver right now. I forget how much I really enjoy this album, especially track 6, "Prisoners". Some people can't stand him, but I really like him. I grew up listening to a lot of folk, showtunes and classic rock. I remember how I felt like a big dork when I was in grade school, because when I would try talking about Simon & Garfunkel, the other kids would look at me like they had no idea what I was talking about. Simon & Garfunkel was one of my very favorites when I was younger. I still like them quite a bit, even if I don't listen to them very often anymore...

love is just a game
0949 hrs:
Just took my morning break. Still not smoking, so I take a few moments to get up, walk around, refill my water glass and stretch. Today is technically my 3rd day smoke-free. It's going pretty well I would say. Every once in a while there is a bit of a temptation to have a cigarette, but I get over it pretty quickly as long as I distract myself. Also, have been finding things many times a day that I enjoy about not being a smoker any more. Little things; like my fingers and hands not smelling like stale smoke, my clothes still smell fairly fresh at the end of the day, I only stop at the gas station to buy gas, etc. All these things really help to reinforce the idea of not going back to smoking. I think in the past I subconsciously thought that the quit wouldn't stick, but this time feels different. This weekend will probably be a big challenge because of the Henry Rollins show and then the Halloween party on Saturday night. For me, going out and drinking has always involved smoking, so we will see how that goes. Can I count on your support, Nailz??

look at the stars. look at how they shine for you
1052 hrs:
Apparently, my bowels are not very happy with me. I wonder what I did to piss them off? It might be the Chantix, but who knows? I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary, so maybe they're just being temperamental.

I can't believe it's almost 11 already! This makes me fairly happy, but it could go faster. *sends Time a hint* Tonight, Nailz and I are going to see Henry Rollins!! How awesome is that? I'm a Henry virgin, so I'm kind of nervous, but am sure it will be a fantabulous time. Nailz has seen Henry live before, so I know I can trust in her guidance!

and everywhere i go, there's always something to remind me of another place and time where love had traveled far and found me
1254 hrs:
In the past, I always ate lunch at my desk and surfed the net. Recently, I have taken up eating in the lunch room with the other ladies. I used to not like it, but now I really quite enjoy it. It feels like more of a break to sit and chat about random stuff - plus we get some good laughs out of it too.

Alas, my lunch was over 3 minutes ago, so I should save this and come back later. *sigh*

1410 hrs:
Nothing to add, I guess. I hope the afternoon goes as quickly as the morning did. But - it IS Friday, and Friday afternoons are always such a bitch...

Today's rocking playlist:
John Denver - Rocky Mountain High
Moulin Rouge Soundtrack - Disc 1
Coldplay - Parachutes
Royksopp - mix of 2 albums
Oleander - February Son <---this album rocks out completely
The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore

no i would not give you false hope on this strange and mournful day

0758 hrs:
Ah. So it is already Thursday, eh? This week is going by so quickly for me! I'm kind of stunned, really. I'm doing good with quitting smoking. I haven't had a cigarette at work all week and stopped having cigarettes outside of work yesterday. I have nic-fits here and there, but mostly, it feels ok. I'm suspicious. It's almost TOO easy - kind of like in horror films when it gets too quiet or the calm before a big summer storm. Hm....well, we will see.

Can't think of much else to say at this point. I'm not going to make the same mistake as yesterday of not saving this as a draft and then losing it to a program error. As much as this is mostly ramble....

0859 hrs:
Guh. *dies trying to stay awake* Man....I need to stop staying up late reading BL manga. I haven't gone to sleep until after midnight every day this week. It's finally really hitting me - like a ton of bricks. I can barely keep my eyes open and I yawn every few minutes. *sad sigh* Also, have found out that Justin Timberlake's beats can put me right to sleep - even the dancier stuff.

I don't think my tiredness is helped any by the fact that the office is cold this morning. I'm sitting here in my heavy wool pullover thingy and have my knit hat on in an effort to warm up.

Well....suppose I should get back at it. Maybe a little walk around the office will help to wake and warm me up.

0916 hrs:

Tried going back to working on a project, but just couldn't keep my eyes open, so I got up and walked around a bit (bathroom break, etc) and talked to the office chatterbox for a few minutes. We talked about cats because we are some of the only cat owners in the office. I feel much more awake now. I am happy to see that it is past 9am. Usually time goes by much more quickly once 10am hits. *crosses fingers*

1051 hrs:
YATTA!!! \o/ I just found a way to get around the restrictions on my PC for setting my own wallpaper. Before, I was going through the "properties" dialog box to set a wallpaper and it would only let me choose from the standard Windows wallpapers and a few pre-installed and approved company logos. Today it occurred to me while looking at a picture of my cat (yes, I have pictures of my cat saved on my work computer - I need something to look at that will cheer me up on bad work days) that I should try right clicking on the picture and choose "Set as Desktop Background". It worked! Yay! This makes me happy. Now I can look at my cat's sweet face whenever I minimize all my work windows.

1327 hrs:
It's been so long since I listened to a full Dave Matthews Band album. How amazing...I forget how enjoyable their music is. Usually, I skip over listening to DMB because I just think of how over-played some of their songs were on the radio. I don't remember that all the other songs on the album are so much better! Maybe I'll make tonight a DMB re-discovery night and play all of the albums I own in a row (I think it's 8 albums total...).

Today's playlist:
U2 - War
Justin Timberlake - Justified <--I think I'm going to get rid of this CD - it's too sleep-inducing for me... Paul Simon - Negotiations and Love Songs 1971-1986 Dave Matthews Band - Crash Dave Matthews Bank - Under the Table and Dreaming
Yoshida Brothers - III

excess ain't rebellion - you're drinkin' what they're sellin'

0811 hrs:
There always seems to be a dead space in my mornings at work; a time where I honestly can't think of anything to do, so I turn to writing a daily email.

The person in the next cube must be having a bad day - she's banging around and closing her desk drawers loudly. I feel for her - it's not even 9am yet.

I was successful yesterday in not smoking at work. It was pretty easy. I hope it stays that way. I only had 3 cigarettes yesterday, which is unheard of for me, so that's good. Chantix is an interesting drug. I haven't necessarily lost my desire to smoke, but I'm not exactly motivated enough to make time for smoking either. Plus, every cigarette I've smoked in the last 24 hours has tasted absolutely nasty. I also blame Chantix for the constant sour stomach I seem to have lately and the numerous, very vivid, strange dreams I have been having. When I wake up in the morning, I feel like I have had a ton of dreams, but can't really remember the whole dream, just bits and pieces. Strange.

Last night around midnight, the next door neighbors (who usually I really like) were having a knock-down drag-out fight. Not sure if there actually was any physical contact going on, but lots of slamming doors and screaming and yelling. I could actually hear exactly what the lady was screaming. It was pretty hurtful. I was hoping they would quiet down so I could actually fall asleep and then I felt bad for hearing all their fighting. Then again, maybe if they hadn't been screaming and yelling so loud, I wouldn't have heard what they were saying. What's worse is that they have a little boy. I feel bad for him having to hear that. Yikes...

0845 hrs:
I decided to work on some online training, but damn is it slow. It feels like I wait 5 minutes for it to check my answer on the section quizzes. Blah. That's what I'm waiting on right now.

Didn't take the time last night to see if I could fix my mp3 player, so I'm listening to CDs again today - still working through the CD case I keep in my car.

1032 hrs:
It is ultimately hard for me to listen to Peter, Paul and Mary at work because I want to sing along. *sigh* This shall be a test of my will. *flaming eyes of youth* Whenever I listen to Peter, Paul and Mary, I think of my mom in the kitchen, baking on a Saturday morning and singing along. Another baking/cooking favorite of my mom's was Barbara Streisand. I like to listen to Babs when I'm baking now, too. *rolls eyes* It drives Nailz nuts, so she hides in her room. Gomen ne, Nailz-san!! Hontoni gomen ne!

1222 hrs:
I'm about to eat a HotPocket for the first time in my life. I'm kind of excited. It's one of the fancy croissant ones. What will it be like? I feel like I'm about to step into a whole new world - but I have to wait 2 minutes first (per the carton instructions).

1249 hrs:
The HotPocket wasn't that great and it was tiny to boot. I'm not displeased, but don't think I will be buying any in the future. I'm following it up with some strawberry-banana yogurt. I'm not a big fan of anything that is strawberry-banana flavored, but it was cheaper to get 4 of s-b flavor and 4 of the peach flavor than to just get 2 4-packs of peach. So meh...

Tonight, I have to vacuum the apato. It hasn't been done in a couple of weeks. I have just been too lazy. :( Ah well, guess that's all for today's random post!

Today's completely accidental playlist:
LIVE - Throwing Copper
Weezer - Maladroit
Cake - I Will Survive single (UK Edition)
Peter, Paul and Mary - The Best of 10 Years Together
Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes

The White Stripes - Elephant
NEWS - Touch
