maybe in time you'll want to be mine*
0834 hrs:Happy Friday the 13th! Tomorrow being Valentine's Day (Barentinusu Day, in Japan), I thought I would post a
link to something that anyone who reads my blog would appreciate.
My sister is in town this weekend, but not sure what the agenda is yet. My car is at the mechanic's today to see what is wrong with my brakes and ABS system. I'm guessing that it will be a fairly large bill. I'm the kind of person who likes to be prepared for the price shock, but I really have no idea of the amount I'm going to pay. I figure if I think $500, that it'll hopefully be less than that. Will be glad to have my car fully working again.
I am so tired and sleepy today that I keep yawning really big and my jaw is starting to hurt and my eyes are watering dreadfully...*tired sigh* Well, at least tomorrow I will be able to sleep in and catch up on some Z's....
Recover from ultimate sleepies action plan:
1) Take YoYo Ma CD out and put in....Gorillaz - Demon Days
2) Get up from desk and walk to break room for
more coffee....
ETA: Mission status: success!
0953 hrs:I think it's sad that my teeth are so sensitive to everything that even drinking room-temperature water makes them hurt.
That was not what I was going to write though. I wanted to point out that because my car is at the mechanic's, I have Nailz's car with me. What happens is that she follows me to drop off my car, then we drive to her work, then I take her car to my work and then I pick her up from work after I'm done. It actually works out pretty well. Anywho - this means that I have access to Nailz's CDs that are in her car. This morning I snagged the following CDs from her car: Paul McCartney - Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, Gorillaz - Demon Days, NIN - Broken, BECK - animation BECK soundtrack, YoYo Ma. Quite the variety, plus some of these I've never listened to so it is a nice change.
I am anxious to hear from the mechanic about what is wrong with my car and when it will be fixed. Usually, I can expect the car to be fixed in the same day, but I'm not so sure that will happen this time. I hope it doesn't have to stay the weekend....
Speaking of the weekend, I do have a few things that I'm looking forward to doing along with seeing my sister while she is in town. Nailz and I are going clothes shopping this weekend. Hopefully, I will be able to settle on an interview outfit. I'm limiting my clothes purchases to those that are for the interview. Also, I am going to submit an order for all of the film developing supplies I'll need to develop my own black & white film. Should be fun. I just have a couple of things to check on before I hit "place order". Yay!
1545 hrs:Ever notice how good it feels to sigh sometimes? There are so many different types and ways to sigh. Sometimes, though, they are not nearly as relieving as you hope. I've been doing a little bit of good and bad sighing today. But I definitely have been sighing a lot more lately.
Have been feeling weepy all afternoon. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's that it has been so gloomy all week. Or maybe it's that I'm so tired and all I really want to do is go home, tuck myself in to bed and go to sleep and hide from the world the whole weekend. It sounds so nice....Alas, I have friends and family that actually want to see me (shocking, isn't it?).
Just a few minutes ago I was thinking about the clothes shopping expedition planned for this weekend. Just thinking about it discouraged me. Thinking about how cute the clothes are, but how they are: 1) too expensive, 2) don't fit right or 3) make me look frightful makes me already feel the post-shopping sense of defeat. Self-fulfilling prophecy, anyone? Maybe it won't be that bad since we are going to Kohls, where at least I don't have to worry about them being too expensive as long as I stay near the sale rack.
Best to post this. Soon I have to get on the way to pick up Nailz from work. I don't know the status of my car and probably won't until later this evening. *le sigh* I am not looking forward to that bill.
Everyone have a good weekend and wish me luck for the shopping trip!!

i will learn by studying the lessons in my dreams*
1016 hrs:Happy Monday? Hard to believe the weekend is gone already! Time is becoming a real blur for me lately and every day I feel drained, but still somehow energetic enough to not get to bed until late every night. When I sleep, I dream as if I'm awake. I dream about photography a lot lately. Last night I was dreaming about rare films and developing techniques - but it was just like I was awake. Nothing too unreal was present in the dream so it was really just an extension of my waking life. While I enjoy photography and am fairly fascinated by it, I wish I didn't dream about it. *sweatdrop* I know that it is probably just my brain trying to process all of the new stuff about photography that I am learning every day, but still... >_<
Speaking of photography, I bid on and won some more rare, discontinued film on eBay. This time I won an auction for Kodak Technical Pan (usually shortened to TechPan or TP). This film is supposed to have been one of the finest grain black and white films ever made. I also am currently bidding on some other film that is similar to TechPan, but most people will agree is even better than the TechPan. This newest one is called Panatomic-X. One photographer said that he had used some while it was still being produced and he went so far as to call it grainless. 0_o I hope I win the auction - that would be really awesome!
Well, guess that is it for now. I'll come back later with this weekend's Grocery Titan and the weekend sum up. :D
1143 hrs:I am still winning the auction for the old film. This pleases me. I feel kind of bad trying to get all of this film when I haven't even picked out subjects yet. The TechPan and Panatomic-X were really used mostly for architecture, landscape or portrait photography. I have never attempted portrait photography. I generally don't like people to be my subject. Humans are fussy and they don't sit still for very long and most are not comfortable posing for pictures. I wonder how much it would be to find a model....*ponders*
This morning has gone very quickly for me. I have been busy, and it looks like the afternoon will keep me occupied as well. This also pleases me. (I'm thinking that overall, I must be very pleased this morning...which is strange for a Monday.)
I'm about to announce this week's Grocery Titan, and even though I know you are all on the edge of your seats, I would like to just put a little aside in here first. Last week, I went to a nutrition class. The overall theme was to try to eat foods that aren't heavily processed (all of the things you find on the outer ring of a grocery store) and that have a minimum of sugar added. SO - my grocery list changed as a result of this class, which of course, made a big difference in what this week's Grocery Titan - or should I say Grocery Titans?
TIED for this weekend's Grocery Titan is the bag of California oranges and the basting brush! Both items came in at a sturdy $3.99.
And, (let us not forget) this weekend's Grocery Saver: the pint of fresh blueberries on sale for $2.98! I chose to freeze them until I can think of what to do with them. They will probably end up in some plain yogurt next week.
1543 hrs:I won the film auction. Someone really was trying near the end there. I was a little bit worried.
I have been doing a lot of data entry today and been busy otherwise as well. The data entry part was difficult today because I seem to have some background processes running in my mind, so I found myself searching the same numbers over and over again in the database. It took me almost twice as long as normal to do as much as I did. *sigh*
Feeling tired. I don't have much planned for tonight. I was going to go to yoga to make up for a day I missed a few weeks ago, but am so tired that I think I will just go home, make some casserole and veg out. Maybe I'll even go to bed at a good time. <--yeah right

we turn this better thing to the best*
0932 hrs:I was sick of idiots before I even arrived at work this morning. Actually, I almost called in a sick day today. Murphy (my cat) was being so lovey this morning, I could have easily laid back in bed and cuddled all morning with him. I'm not sick, but I am tired. I feel exhausted in almost every aspect of my persons. Just ... blah.
Just now, I felt a particularly strong pain twinge in my left side. This made me realize that my abdomen is in a constant state of discomfort - whether it is simply feeling bloated or actual outright pain, I can't remember the last time that my abdomen was free from pain or discomfort. I'd say it has been at least since the summer. Hm.
Last night on the drive home from Yoga and the nutrition learning seminar, a deer hit my car. Some people who are not familiar with Minnesota (or the Midwest for that matter) would be really surprised that there are deer in the city. Well, the Twin Cities (and of course, the surrounding suburbs) have a lot of wooded areas and parks where the deer love to live. So anyway - a deer hit the front, driver's side of my car and then skidded and rolled over my windshield and the hood of my car and then bounded off into the woods. I was a bit freaked out - it had been so noisy and I was amazed that the only damage my car suffered was a dent about 9 inches in diameter over the wheel well where the deer initially hit/jumped. I'm ok too (obviously). I just can't stop thinking of how lucky I am that that is all that happened. In terms of running into deer, this may be the best outcome I've ever heard of.
This morning I narrowly avoided an accident, too. The roads were a bit slick because of the snow we got last night, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was someone who was in the left turn lane and then suddenly decided they didn't want to turn left, so they swerved out in front of me without signaling. I had to swerve and brake. I also honked quite a bit and shouted some choice expletives.
1601 hrs:Gee. Look at the time!
There is something that I keep putting off posting because I run out of time during the work day. (Huh - who would've known?!) It has to do with the fantabulous looking Mr. M and strategies I've come up with to cope (which sometimes work). I hope I remember it later.
Better go. Everyone is leaving and I'm feeling like I could take a nap rather than drive home right now. Blech.

the minor tough's walking past again0921 hrs:*grumbles* It seems that no matter how hard I try, I'm just
not a morning person. Even when I feel awake in the morning, I still don't feel motivated to actually do anything. This morning I am neither feeling very awake nor feeling motivated. I have a cup of coffee in front of me. I hope it helps - otherwise, a whole day spent trying to keep my eyes open would totally blow.
1009 hrs:My office chair is magic today. The moment I sit down in it, it casts a spell and I can't keep my eyes open. Have been doing more of the Sarbanes-Oxley training, but have had to stand up while reading it so I don't nod off. Our cubicle walls are the medium height ones (4 ft?), so when you stand up, everyone can see you. I felt weird, but hey - better than fighting the heavy eyelids all morning. I think the coffee might be starting to (FINALLY) kick in, so I'm giving the magic chair a try.
1305 hrs:I can't think of much to say today. I feel like the super-grumps may be descending upon me. SO - to avoid any interaction with my actual personality, I'll announce this weekend's Grocery Titan and the (new category)Target Titan.
In order to do my best to reach one of my goals of 2009, I decided that one of the small parts of achieving that goal is to do weekly meal planning and only buy the groceries that I need for the week's meals. Of the groceries on my list, I also made it a point to buy the product that was on sale or the least inexpensive. Because of this, most of my groceries were under $2.00 a piece. This weekend's Grocery Titan goes to: the Oberweis 2% milk at $3.69 + the $.85 bottle deposit making it a total of $4.54! Now I hope that I can drink all of it before it goes bad. :D
I did well in the grocery department of sticking to my list, but I did not as well while in Target. I'm horrible at not making spur-of-the-moment purchases. This weekend's Target Titan is the red fleece winter pullover (for running) that was on clearance for ... $14.99.
Please give our Titans a boisterous round of applause. Of course, the Target Titan was priced much less than I would have paid for it from a sporting goods store, so I guess it really does deserve kudos.
1502 hrs:Just about to post this. I'm going to borrow an idea from Sesame Street and say that this blog entry was brought to you by the letter "F". This past weekend's activities largely revolved around facebook, Fantastipo and fotos (heh). Write at you all tomorrow. :)

what do i care how much it may storm? i've got my murphy to keep me warm0914 hrs:Have been tuning out my cow-orkers all morning. They have been especially chatty this week. While I sometimes enjoy joining in, most times I just turn up my music. Because I have the noise-canceling ear buds, turning up my music is particularly effective. This pleases me.
What doesn't please me is being super-sleepy for the 3rd day in a row. I'll admit that I went to bed too late last night. And I took a sleeping pill again to stay asleep until my alarm went off. To me, there is nothing more annoying than waking up before your alarm goes off. D=
I have decided there are "rules" to driving in Minnesota in the winter. Here are the 2 I've been reminded of since it first snowed and dipped below zero:
1) Before getting in line for a drive-thru, it is a good idea to check if your window will be able to roll down first. This is important because if it is unable to be rolled down, you end up having to open your door a lot and yell your order. If the window is frozen, it's easiest just to park and run inside.
2) The rules of behavior when dealing with wild animals in close quarters can be applied to driving on slick winter roads: no sudden movements and you should be fine. Now you have to worry about the other idiots on the road!
1157 hrs:This morning I woke up thinking it was Thursday. What a disappointment to realize it is only Wednesday! It feels as though this week has been extra long. I'm sure this is the result of not having this past weekend off. Is it just me or has Christmas really snuck up on us? I still have 1 gift to get this weekend. I thought I was done Christmas shopping, but I had forgotten one thing for one person. *sigh* So I will be in the crowds this weekend...Can you feel my enthusiasm??
I AM looking forward to wrapping all of the Christmas gifts this weekend, though. I really actually enjoy the wrapping more than anything. Plus, I have a TON of new wrapping paper and supplies, so I'm pretty excited to use up the old and get to the new (because that's my rule...)!

0814 hrs:Guh. Didn't sleep well last night. As mentioned in yesterday's entry, I went to the Tonic Sol-Fa concert last night. It went for over 2 1/2 hours! >__<; It was a really good concert, but I am wishing it would not have been on a Monday night. The concert ended after 10pm and then they were in the lobby signing autographs and meeting fans. I saw the line and decided to just go home. *big pause* Yeah....that didn't exactly work out. The parking ramp that I parked in was connected to Orchestra Hall and therefore the one that was the most full. I got in my car and sat in the line for about 10 minutes, not moving an inch. I knew it would take a good half hour or more (and half a tank of gas while idling) to even get out of the parking ramp, so I backed up into a spot and went back in to stand in line for an autograph. I was one of the last in line, so by the time I got back to my car, the parking ramp was deserted. By that time it was almost 11pm. Got home and went straight to bed, but couldn't fall asleep until after midnight; too much going on in the old noggin. *le sigh* To make it worse, I woke up at 5:30am and woke up every 5 minutes after that. There is honestly no place I would want to be more than in my bed right now. I took preemptive steps this morning to try to keep myself awake by getting a 16 oz. latte. We will see if it works. *hopes and prays*
1028 hrs:The latte saved me this morning. Well...I did do some work while standing up in my cube just to keep awake, but I only had to do that for a few minutes and have been ok ever since.
The weather forecast is looking nasty again tonight. We still have slick roads from the storm that came through on Sunday night. The only good thing about more snow is that the temperature will rise a little bit. 'Course, then it will probably just plunge right back down to below-zero temperatures.
I actually really love winter - even the biting below-zero temperatures. I don't even mind driving on slick or snowy roads that much. It's when there are a lot of other drivers on the road that I start to get nervous about getting in an accident.
I have a dentist appointment tonight. I have to get yet another filling. I don't understand how I am getting all of these cavities; I brush my teeth morning and night, floss (almost) every day and don't eat a lot of sugary foods. Apparently, a lot of it is genetic. My mother says she has more cavities than she has teeth. I think that might be a bad sign for me. 0_o
1145 hrs:The boss just left (probably for the rest of the day). She has a meeting at another location and so of course, the office staff breathe a big sigh of relief. It's not that our boss is horrible or overbearing (in fact, most of the time, quite the opposite) - it's just the fact that she's the boss. And it is a universal rule that when the boss leaves, everyone always feels a bit more at ease.
Having written that, I don't remember what else I was going to write about other than the fact that despite being tired, I have gotten quite a bit done this morning. Yay!

i don't wanna hurt nobody, but a bee has got to sting0838 hrs:SUPER SLEEPY....I've been here for an hour and already I feel as if I can't keep my eyes open.
0857 hrs:I went in to the break room to start brewing some elixir of life and noticed that I would grunt every once in a while. I must have sounded like a confused wookie! Now, though, I have a nice, steaming cup of java in front of me and soon I will be much more awake and productive (I hope).
1001 hrs:With caffeine on my side, I am starting to win the battle against sleepiness. In fact, I am so awake that I can safely listen to Christmas music without the fear of falling asleep at my desk. :)
1307 hrs:Time to post this baby. BUT - a few items of note first.
- There will be no grocery titan to post this week, as I am living off of leftovers this week.
- I've decided that my favorite Christmas album is Nat King Cole, with Frank Sinatra coming in a close 2nd. Bing is awesome as well, but I don't feel as inspired to sing along as the other two.
- Tonight, I have tickets to Orchestra Hall to Tonic Sol-Fa's Christmas concert.
- It just hit me that there really is only a couple of weeks left in the year. How crazy! The time sure does go faster the older you get...

you try to play it cool like you just don't care, but soon i'll be playing in your underwear1155 hrs:*laughs* I am in a good mood today. There are so many things I want to write about, but there are too many and they are spinning around in my head at too fast a pace to catch each one.
Currently, I am listening to Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song" album. I would just like to state for the record (and also to warn my poor roommate) that on Saturday or Sunday I will be baking Christmas cookies for the office cookie exchange and I WILL be listening to every Christmas album I own on repeat. I will also most likely be singing along loudly in the fashion of my mother when she bakes Christmas cookies. There are times where I am so obviously my mother's daughter. :D
Did I ever mention that I read
Bridge to Terabithia a couple of weeks ago? Well, I did - and it still is sticking with me, even though I am reading
A Year Down Yonder right now. I am working my way through the stack of Newberry Medal and Newberry Honor winners that I have next to my bed. I'm not doing the best, but considering I read manga frequently and am also slowly reading
Importing Diversity (an anthropology study of Japan's JET Program), I think I'm doing pretty well. I just get so distracted that I can't really read just one book at a time. :)
Well, time for lunch. Will probably write again in the afternoon, so I'll wait to post this for now.
1411 hrs:I am positively falling asleep at my desk. Sad thing is, one minute I'm going through the database I help to maintain and fixing records and feel perfectly awake, the next minute I'm nodding and my left pinky has been hitting CTRL repeatedly. *sigh*
One of the dangers of database maintenance is falling asleep. It does get pretty boring. Earlier today I spent a little bit of time (in order to wake up) surfing these links:
I'm pretty sure, most men would not like it if the girl they were about to sleep with pulled one of
these out. Of course, it is in centimeters, so it might be ok for those conversionally challenged...
I liked the commentary that went with
this picture. Ron Weasley would have fainted dead away at the sight of that.
Do I need to even say what my thoughts were when I saw
this? Any thoughts originating from the gutter would be pretty right on.
How awesome is
this?
I find it interesting that if you look closely at
this picture, behind the people running you can see people who have fallen. That must be just as dangerous as being run over by a horse... Yikes...
And lastly, this interests me greatly. It is most interesting when people
go missing, seemingly without a trace...

go find another lover to bring a-- to string along...0906 hrs:I am typing this with gloves on. Considering that, I'm doing pretty well, I must say. It feels super chilly in the office this morning, but it might be that I'm just too sensitive to it. Thing is, it is 19 degrees outside and it would feel better to be outside moving around than to sit here in the office and freeze. Doesn't help that I'm sleepy. Then again, when am I not? I can't remember the last work day where I
wasn't sleepy. There is just something magical about this time of the morning that wants to lull me to sleep.
I wish I could just close my eyes and take a nap. I feel so tired.... >_< I feel like I should not take tomorrow off, as I have already been gone one day this week (and unpaid at that!), BUT I really would like to sleep in tomorrow and just take it easy before my weekend shifts into high gear.
1358 hrs:My mood has drastically improved since this morning. I'm not sure why, but I'm in a fairly good mood right now. Maybe it is the thought of Thanksgiving next week. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I haven't had my mom's Thanksgiving dinner in 3 years! I get excited thinking about it.
All day today I have been feeling like I am forgetting something important. I'm not sure if that is the case or not, but it kind of makes one paranoid, you know?
Do you ever listen to a certain song or album and it takes you back to a very specific time and place? I'm listening to The Wallflowers,
Bringing Down the Horse. Every time I hear this album, I think back to the winter of 1996 to 1997. I was in high school, but I was head over heels for a college guy. I remember hanging out in his tiny apartment late at night, listening to this album (among others, such as Blues Traveler and Dave Matthews Band), doing homework and trying to win his heart. It never did work. I think back on those times and it feels like I was someone else; not anyone close to me. I can feel the coldness of the winter seeping in to the attic apartment through drafty windows and the crisp winter night sky. The memory is visceral.
1513 hrs:Still have the pervasive feeling that I am forgetting something really big that I'm supposed to do. *sigh*
Here's a small embarrassment: Last night I was waxing my eyebrows (which I always do myself), but was really rushing through it. I accidentally waxed away a part of my right eyebrow. Oops. Thankfully, it is a small portion and not really that noticeable. It's interesting how many times people have asked me how I could do it myself and wasn't I afraid of waxing them off by accident....And not once until last night have I ever made an "oops...". Well, not a big deal - thankfully, eyebrows grow back pretty quickly anyway. *sheepish grin*
So tonight, Nailz and I are going to a concert. It's an early show, but if my evil plan goes right, we'll break backstage and get to hang with the boys. I'm pretty excited, but very calm at the same time. I haven't heard anything from the new album because I don't have it yet, so I'm hoping they play some older songs so I don't feel so unhip.
Well, guess that's about it. I'll leave you with a few of my favorite suggested excuses for not going to work (from my office joke calendar):
"I can't come to work today for the same reason you won't promote me. There is no reason."
"My stepmother has come back as one of the Undead and we must track her to her coffin to drive a stake through her heart and give her eternal peace. One day should do it."

i don't want to go out. i want to stay in...get things done0933 hrs:And so the short, dreary days of winter have begun. This morning it was perfectly clear and the sun was coming up without any clouds to obstruct the view. Now, it is so gray out that I don't think you could find the sun if you tried.
I am feeling sleepy again. By now, I should be used to this feeling, right? Nope. It still takes me by surprise to be so sleepy. I have yawned so much this morning already that my jaw hurts and my eyes are all watery. I am slowly, but surely getting to bed earlier in the evenings. It doesn't seem to be helping much so far.
I am dreading the next 3 weeks. There is too much going on in my planner. There already are two instances where I've spontaneously said yes to doing something and then realized that I already had plans. Also - I just don't really want to go out and do things. I want to stay inside. I'm tired of always being away from home. I just want a weekend where the only time I go out is to grocery shop on Sunday. I want to be home Friday night and all day on Saturday and Sunday.
It looks like there will be no weekend like that for me until the weekend before Christmas. Bah...
Anywho - just thinking about all of that makes me crabby.
1226 hrs:Just finished eating. Lunch was ok. I had a tuna salad sandwich and a yogurt. People around me all had hot food that they had ordered out for. I was extremely envious. What is it about this time of year that makes us want to eat all the stuff that is fattening? What I really want is fatty, greasy, hot food in large amounts. It feels like such a punishment to not follow those cravings.
I am having a strange day. The morning went by pretty quickly even though I feel as though I didn't do much. Then at lunch, I was attacked by
the Giggle Loop. It was certainly embarrassing. My co-workers looked at me kind of strange, but I couldn't help it. Maybe I've finally snapped, eh? *sigh* It was such a quiet, inappropriate moment for a laughing fit. Sad thing is, sitting here thinking about it, I feel like laughing again. Laughing until tears come.
So I guess that is about it. There are three people gone from the office today, so it is really quiet. I am hoping that the afternoon doesn't feel so sleepy. I don't think I can describe in words just how much I don't want to do any work today. *sigh* It is hard some days to stay motivated. :(

you're not obliged to swallow anything you despise0949 hrs:Yikes...I am having a very sleepy morning and feel like it should at least be noon by now! I've decided to not drink coffee on the weekdays, so today is my first day trying that. *longs for caffeine*
I called in yesterday. I was completely exhausted and just couldn't manage to get out of bed on time, so I took an unpaid day. Didn't do much of anything - mostly slept in and watched Hana Yori Dango2. I'm completely hooked on that series. So full of bishounen!! Also, I want to see how it ends (well, of course, right?).
1124 hrs:Just spent some time away from my desk helping out other people with a project that needed help in completing. Now that I am back to my desk, I am really hungry and feel like taking a break.
I just looked at my planner. My week involves a lot of being out and about almost every day and night. I am tired just thinking about it. Actually, every night until Thanksgiving is looking pretty busy. This makes me sad. I just really want to chill at home for the whole weekend for once.
Also just looked at my grocery bill from last night's shopping foray. This week's grocery titan is a clear winner: Minnesota-grown Wild Rice coming in at $4.49 for 1 pound takes the crown. Nothing else really comes close to that one. Everything else is pretty much $3 or less.
Well, can't think of much else to say. I'm feeling pretty blank at the moment and this will probably be all for today. Ciao for now!

the greatest of teachers won't hesitate to leave you there by yourself chained to fate0848 hrs:Happy Friday, ne? Thank goodness....I've had about all I can take of this place right now. It's not even 9am and I feel like flipping the Vs and taking the rest of the day off. I was in a fairly good mood when I first came in. For the first time in a while, I knew exactly what I was going to do all day and up until about 1/2 hour ago, I was getting a lot of done. I should emphasize that it is MY work that I was getting done. Because now, it turns out I'm doing someone else's catch up work. Boss's order though, so can't really go against it - but that doesn't mean it's not bullshit. The work itself isn't bad, it's the fact that it is this other co-workers work that she just hasn't been doing. I've often wondered what she does all day if she's not doing her job? I mean, I'll admit to some slacking on my part here and there, but there is never the case where someone else has to stop what they are doing RIGHT NOW and help me catch up on a back log. I DON'T HAVE A BACK LOG. I wonder why this is? Hm....maybe it's because I actually do my job. What a novel idea that is!
So now - while I work on someone else's work all day, I will be fuming. This is ok. I haven't been terribly crabby lately, and being pissed off ensures that I won't feel tired. I will also be listening to "angry" music. Fun fun.
There is a work happy hour scheduled for tonight. I don't really feel like going, but I'll stop by for one (1) drink and then bolt. I have a busy weekend ahead and have to be up early tomorrow morning, so there's no way they are getting me to stay past one drink. With any luck, I'll be back home by 6pm. Plus, after a crappy day at the office, why would I want to spend MORE time with my co-workers?
1013 hrs:Taking a breather. I've been hitting the back log hard and fast. I'm already through a third of it. It has to be that this person wasn't doing anything, or how could I got through a third of it in 2 hours? It's ridiculous. And I though
I slacked sometimes. Damn.
So in other news...Was having really strange dreams last night, but can't remember any of them. I went to bed super late. Ok, well, 1am. Still - considering I usually think midnight is late...
I am turning into my she-bitch form again. *heavy sigh* This happens every month. For the next 2 weeks I will have a hot snake of anger coiled in the pit of my stomach that nothing will be able to shake. Recently, I had been thinking of seeking some sort of treatment for this imbalance, but lately I've really been enjoying my inner-bitch. I think I'm just going to go with it and embrace it. I don't think it really matters that much since it really only affects me. I'm so good at holding it all in and putting a smile on my face that no one else even notices the steam coming out of my ears. Why should it matter then? Plus, this way my heavy metal and other angry music actually gets used. At least those won't be wasted.
1158 hrs:Someone's lunch smells like fresh cat urine. I don't think I will tell them that, but it's pretty disgusting to smell....

i need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me0829 hrs:Bah. I am in a pretty black mood this morning. I haven't even spoken a word to my co-workers yet today. Got here and put my headphones in right away. It's not that I would mind talking to them, but I have nothing to say right now. I was a few minutes late to work today. It was a result of having to clean up after the cat (who kept waking me up all last night, so he's definitely in my black book today). Didn't get much sleep last night and I am feeling super groggy. Morning coffee isn't helping any - it turned out very weak this morning. *sad girl with watery coffee*
Had an interesting weekend. My sister was visiting, but she was staying at someone else's place, so I wasn't home much this weekend except to sleep. As per usual when she is here, we visited with A. because he is a good friend of my sister's. He's an ex-boyfriend of mine from about 7 or 8 years ago and sometimes I get this crazy idea that I should go out with him again. Maybe I'm just lonely. If I am lonely, I think I would only have myself to blame.
1002 hrs:Wow. I am super tired today. I am running on auto-mode and have been getting things done, but it's all been while half-asleep and through heavy lidded eyes. Of course, now I feel a lot more awake. The coffee must have finally kicked in. :)
I am wearing a pair of nice pants with a cardigan and tank top today. It is pretty dressy compared to my normal attire. I picked the outfit last night and it didn't even occur to me that maybe I couldn't fit into the pants anymore. Well, I fit in to them, but they are fairly tight. They are actually kind of uncomfortable and I am already looking forward to getting home tonight and changing into something more comfortable. I really don't know where all this weight is coming from the last few months. People tell me that it is a side-effect of quitting smoking. That really bites. So I'm wondering how to get rid of this weight my body is piling on. I exercise 3 times a week already and eat small portions of food and don't eat out a lot normally. What else to do? It seems that no matter what I do I keep gaining weight. And it seems that especially now that I've actually concentrated on getting in to more healthy habits, my clothes just keep getting tighter and tighter. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to buy a new wardrobe. *is exasperated*
1158 hrs:At my bathroom break this morning I made the mistake of looking in the mirror. My pants are SUPER tight. I am really embarrassed to have worn something like these to work. I messaged one of my co-workers to vent my embarrassment and so she came and had a look but didn't think they were as bad as I made them sound. NOT TRUE! I feel like a total hoochie in these pants now that I've seen how tight they are in a mirror.
It's almost lunch time. I am hungry, but being frustrated with mysterious weight gain ruins my appetite. Guess I will eat anyway, because it would be stupid not to. I don't think I have anything else to say today. I am just hiding out in my cube and trying not to get up and around the office too often because of my embarrassingly tight pants. I hope the rest of the day goes by quickly so I can go home and change my pants. *blushes*
1241 hrs:More news from the too-tight-pants front: I was just sharing my embarrassment with a female co-worker over the cube wall and without realizing it, my voice is kind of loud. The one (1) male that works in the front office then casually walks by my cube "on his way to the boss' office", but is not very casual about the way he was obviously looking at the tight pants. That's it. I'm wearing my long jacket the rest of the day whenever I get up from my desk. *depressed sigh* OH - and also, apparently because my ass takes up more space in my pants, they look too short as well.
I know I'm probably being overly dramatic about the whole thing, but...well, it's embarrassing to make a fashion gaffe at work.

if you're sad then it's time you spoke up too0811 hrs:Wow. For the first time in years, I feel like I can be proud to be an American in an international setting. As if I could go anywhere and do anything and be proud of my country. Obviously, I think that Obama is the right man for the job of leading such a great country that is in such great need of good leadership.
I'll try not to say more than that. I don't particularly like to put my political views down in words, but I'm too elated to hold it all the way in. (The inner voice is excitedly saying, "Wasn't his speech awesome, though!?" and I am answering it "Yes, yes. It was inspiring! *squee*")
Ok, so maybe I won't be able to stay off of politics for too long. *grin*
Yesterday was a good day in other ways, too. Because I got to leave work early, I was able to run some errands that needed to get done. I filled up my gas tank, because there is speculation that gas prices will go back up now that the election is over. After that, I dropped off a couple bags of donations to Goodwill. I went to the post office as well and mailed out my JET application via Certified Mail and stopped by the mall to donate my old cell phone and chat with Mr. T. I had a very good, animated discussion with him about Korean vs. Japanese movies and television. He gave me a list of good Korean movies to see.
Then I went and voted with Nailz. We got lost on the way to our polling place (just like last time), but still got there. There was no line, so it was quick. We ended up getting Papa Murphy's and zoning out into the J-drama "Stand Up" until around 9:30 and then started watching the election results. It's a sign of the times that we didn't turn on the TV, but instead "tuned in" to MSNBC live coverage on the internets. I didn't get to bed until past 1am. Oh bah...I am tired, but it's the best tired I've ever been in my life. Plus, that's why I have a 20 oz. pumpkin pie latte. :D
0857 hrs:Time is so cruel. I can't believe it is not even 9am yet! I am super-tired, but am trying to stay positive. I don't think there are words for how much I don't want to be at work today. I was thinking about leaving at noon if I'm still too antsy to tame my thoughts. I'm normally pretty distracted anyway, but today I can't think in a linear fashion to save my life. My bed and warm kitty are calling to me, saying "come enjoy a nice, long nap on this cloudy, dark day." I am super tempted. Well, we will see how the rest of the morning goes...
gather around, listen to my champion sound1156 hrs:Well, the morning has gone by fairly well. Guess I'll be doing the full work day. I don't really have any extra time off left anyway. There was something I was going to write, but I have forgotten it now. I am still very tired, but I feel more awake at least. :) OH - I just remembered. Now that the election is over, I keep getting nervous about the JET application. Wish me luck! Now - to try to distract myself for the next 3 months or so. XD
I don't know if it shows or not, but I am trying to make these rambles shorter. I hope to drill what I have to say down to more compact notes. Hope all are having a good day and I will talk at you all tomorrow. :)

Hello hello hello!0835 hrs:Ah...so it is Monday, the most cursed of days...
I am feeling ok about the fact that it is Monday. What is bothering me is my keyboard. I can't seem to find a comfortable spot for it. Angled up, it hurts my wrists too much; not angled at all and it feels difficult to stretch for the number keys. Some people are never satisfied. *grin*
On Mondays and Fridays throughout the month of November (and possibly December), Colin the coffee maker will have the day off. The coffee shop on my way to work has coffees of the month. This month, the special is a Pumpkin Pie Latte. I am SO indulging myself on Mondays and Fridays for this month! Yay!
Other than that, there is nothing special going on this morning. In fact, it's pretty dead in here. Doesn't help that the boss is out today. I am super sleepy and wish I could just take a nap. *so tempted to close eyes* Will see how this morning goes....
Just looking through my receipts from the weekend. This week, two items tied for the title of grocery titan: super-special maple syrup and a 30oz bag of frozen gyouza. Both came in at $7.99 and fell under the non-taxable food items category. Let's give our contenders a hand! I haven't tried the maple syrup yet, but the frozen gyouza were definitley worth all $8!! Nailz - can you believe that syrup cost that much?! I'm shocked, personally. It better be the best damn maple syrup I've ever had in my life. Shame on me for not even looking at the price before purchasing. I guess I just assumed it wouldn't be that much for a bit of maple syrup. Yikes...
Also, filled up my humble gas tank this weekend. It was nice to only spend $21 to fill 'er up. Also nice was the 26.9 miles I got per gallon this past tankful. I've been trying to take the freeway (which is very close) instead of city roads whenever I can (except during rush hours, of course).
Guess that's about it for now. Am still super sleepy. Eyelids are drooping something fierce. *sad girl with heavy eyelids*
0928 hrs:This article made tears come to my eyes at the end of it. Sure, it starts out snarky, but the last paragraph made me feel so many strong, mixed emotions, I got all teary. *knows she is pathetic*
1053 hrs:Taking a brief break from the grind. This morning feels leisurely. I have put my ear phones in because I don't want to hear any of the political discussion that might crop up periodically today. Democrats heavily outweigh Republicans in this office, so the two Republicans get really pissed off sometimes. I don't blame them, being 20-some against 2. Talk about feeling like the kid who gets picked on at recess... I don't sympathize completely with them of course. I think it's pretty obvious which "side" I am on.
I'm getting really excited to vote tomorrow. This will be the third Presidential election that I've gotten to vote in. Isn't the democratic political process exciting? It makes me giddy to get to cast my vote. I still haven't decided whether or not I'll watch election coverage tomorrow or not. I so rarely turn on the TV, I'm kind of hesitant to start now. Plus, it's not like knowing the outcome before I got to sleep will help me any. I'll either be super-happy or super-pissed. Either emotion will make it hard to go to sleep. Maybe best just to wait until the morning to find out who wins.
Nailz - when are you going to vote? Before or after work? Do you want to go to the polls together? I'm sure some company would be nice, because the lines are pretty much garuanteed to be long.
1205 hrs:I went to the party at Jo-L's on Saturday night. My friend and I went dressed up as Samantha and Miranda from
Sex in the City. It was nice to be able to wear my fancy business suit; I never get to wear it otherwise. I think I looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. We only stayed at the party long enough to drink a beer (about 20 minutes) and then took off. I didn't say goodbye to the host, which I know is rude. He was so absorbed in his other guests that I'm sure he didn't even notice. The good thing is, I think that our quick exit will be sure to throw him off my trail and he won't be contacting me again. This is a big relief. If he does contact me, I won't have any problems being blunt with him. He's not a bad guy, but I don't want anything to do with him. He reminds me too strongly of other guys in the past who've all ended up being complete dickheads and my gut tells me that this guy is the same. I'm old (and hopefully, wise) enough to know to listen to what my guy says about people. I'm not looking for a serious relationship, but I would appreciate a guy who's not seeing others and possibly sleeping around on the side.
Oh - and just looked at my planner and all of my weekends up until Thanksgiving are completely booked. How weird! I feel kind of panicked thinking about it. I long for an easy-going weekend where I can stay home all day and not go out...*wistful sigh*
Got a new cell phone last week. It has the worst ringtones on it! They are horribly cheesy and outdated. It shames me every time it rings. It makes me feel un-hip - so I set out on a quest to get better ringtones. I wanted some NEWS or KAT-TUN ringtones, but they are not available through Verizon. Also, tried following a few tutorials on the internet for how to make your own and get them on your Verizon phone, but they did not work either. *sadness* Ended up going online and finding a few nice ones. BUT - when I tried to buy and download them, Verizon let me know that my phone does not support purchasing ringtones online, so I had to do it from my phone. Super exasperated by that point, I purchased the first 3 ringtones I found that didn't sound shitty. They cost me (get this....drum roll please) $2.99 per ringtone. Isn't that just scandalous!? I felt like I had been bent over on that one. But I was desperate - I was going to really die of shame the next time my phone rang in public if I didn't get a new ringtone...*sigh*
Anywho - Feel like I'm boring you all, so I'll leave it at that for today. Hope everyone is having a lovely, post-daylight savings time Monday!

just let go
0821 hrs:
*sigh* Thinking black thoughts this morning. I am exhausted, as I didn't get to sleep last night until 1am. I was in bed at midnight, but I just layed there and stared at the ceiling, my thoughts racing. The source of my current "mental distress" is of course a boy - named "Jo-L" for our purposes. A couple of days ago, he invited me to a Halloween party that is this weekend. Last night he called and after chatting for a bit, he said that he had invited another girl that he's been dating, so we're both going to be there at the same time. He said that he wanted to let me know so that it wouldn't be "awkward". Huh. Of course, while I was on the phone with him, I was very cool about the whole deal and took it very well. I would give myself an Oscar for my ability to act like I was NOT completely taken off guard, when I was actually pretty ticked off.
It is not that I expected him to be serious about me, but I certainly didn't foresee him putting me face to face with another of his girls. I don't want to be made a fool of. Jo-L is definitely not worth another tiny bit of my (admittedly battered) pride. I guess I am mostly angry (and a bit hurt?). Apparently, I am not worth his time (seeing as I haven't seen him in over a month) unless it is convenient for him or it is in a group setting where he can invite his girlfriend. I am not going to compete for someone's attention. If a person is interested enough in me, I shouldn't have to put in a concerted effort just to keep their limited attention. I'm not going to debase myself that way. He's an idiot. That's what I've come to understand. And he's not worth my time, or even the effort I took in writing all of this.
0855 hrs:
Listening to KAT-TUN solves all problems. Especially Natsu no Basho, Lovejuice, Don't U Ever Stop, TABOO and Our Story. They are just so EPIC sounding. Big sound, big emotions...It is a really good catharsis.
As an after thought to the first part of the first entry: even though I have decided that Jo-L is not worth my time, I have decided that if someone will go with me to the party, I will go. I can't help it - I'm curious who this other girl is. Besides that, some day soon I'll look back on this and laugh - why not start now and it might be a good party story later that everyone can have a good laugh about (after the appall has worn off). Also, I have to admit that sometimes I get bored if my life is not sometimes touched by "DRAMA!!". I will try not to torture Nailz by recounting it too often or dwelling on it too much. As she so accurately put it: "Jo-L makes you crazy and you don't need any more crazy."
1154 hrs:
Have been keeping myself fairly busy this morning. This afternoon is already full of things that need to be done. We are being audited, so there is of course a lot to do. *tired sigh*
I'm not feeling the best today. Probably from lack of sleep and other things. I am looking forward to lunch, but am going to wait a few more minutes.
Tonight, I will be putting the wheels of fate in motion. I'm going to submit my online JET application and then tomorrow put the paper packet together and mail it to the Embassy. I'm nervous, because everything beyond here is unpredictable. I like thinking I know what is going to happen in the future, so this is scary for me. Heh. XD Nailz, will you look through the application with me to make sure I didn't miss something? I need a pair of eyes that haven't looked at it a million times.
Well, that's about it for today. No playlist, as I've been listening to the 30 songs I have on my newly resurrected mp3 player on repeat. *rolls eyes at self* Putting more songs on it is something I'm going to try to do tonight though.
1242 hrs:
Last couple of notes:
There is a guy here at work (I'll call him Leo) who I had a close encounter with after a Happy Hour last spring (he kissed me unexpectedly). I put a stop to it very quickly by letting him know nicely, but bluntly that I was not interested in him that way. Things are still weird, though. Luckily, he works in a different part of the building and now has a girlfriend. Still...We both avoid eye contact and rarely acknowledge the other person's presence. I actively avoid him if possible. Isn't that sad? It makes working here a bit weird some days. *sigh*
The ladies are looking over cookbooks over lunch. It is really funny, because it seems like such a woman's get together when we start talking about cooking and recipes and the like. I feel like I'm 40 - not 29. >___<

and the century is closing down0806 hrs:
*sigh* So this morning was one of those confusing traffic mornings where the normal drive becomes convoluted by strange things other drivers are doing. You know what I mean? Every morning commute has a pattern. I drive in a pattern. For instance, at one stoplight where I make a left turn, I always do a legal left turn (meaning I stay in the left lane and don't drift over to the right lane of the 4-lane street I'm turning on to) and then signal to get into the right lane. This morning, I was cut off from getting in to the right lane because the guy behind me did not do a legal left turn and was already speeding up beside me. This led to me not being able to get into the right lane (where I need to be for my next turn). So yeah - that little incident and a few others made my morning drive feel strange.
Also - left my CD case in the car. I will have to go out and get it soon, but in the meantime I'm listening to my new Ajikan albums (again) and on the most recent single "Fujisawa Loser", the B-side track is really different. I went to check it out on CD-Japan and sure enough, they are not the ones who sing it. Here's what I found out through a commenter at CD-Japan:
"The B-side track is 'Hello Hello'. The song is in English but it isn't sung by AKFG, instead 'The Rentals' lend a hand by singing the song with Aijkan providing the music. You will enjoy this song."
Lately, I feel like I goof off a lot at work, but I think I am being a bit over-paranoid because of the fact that as soon as my boss walks out of her office, she can see what is on my screen. No other person in this office has such a disadvantage when it comes to goofing off at work. I know for a
fact that everyone here does quite a bit of surfing the internets. So when Penny Arcade posted
this comic yesterday, I really felt a connection...
0902 hrs:
Blah. I am a bit frustrated by work this morning, but don't feel like going into details - too lazy and sleepy. Soooo sleeeepy.... -____- I wish I could lay my head down for a few minutes and just shut my eyes. I'd probably be out like a light though. XD
The cat has been letting me sleep through most of the night this week. Yesterday, he didn't wake me up at all. Today, I only woke up because he was yowling in the hall. Unfortunately, it was 5:50am and once I put him in his carrier and got back into bed, I only had a 1/2 hour to sleep before I had to get up for work. *sad girl, tired at desk*
What does a girl do when she can barely stay awake? She goes on to YouTube and finds stuff to watch for a moment or two. Found this on the front page:
Halloween for PetsIt's too cute, but I kind of feel sorry for those pets...
1012 hrs:
Ah, bloody 'ell...The CD player on my work PC is going out. I noticed last week that it wasn't playing the whole album and would just stop after so many tracks, but it would play the first 30 minutes of most CDs, so I was ok with it. Now it will only play the first 7 minutes and some seconds of the CD.
Guess I will have to see if I can get my mp3 player up and running tonight. I hope resetting the player worked. I will try to load music on it tonight and see. If not, I guess it really is time for a Zune. I hope they have small ones. I don't want anything too big or bulky...
1135 hrs:
Right after I finished that last section, I decided to re-arrange my workstation to be more ergonomically correct. I have problems with my shoulders a lot while I'm at work and it is negatively affecting my posture and consequently causing pain in other areas of my torso. I've been thinking for a couple of weeks now that I wanted to change it, but today I finally said f*ck it and just stopped what I was doing, turned off all of my equipment and moved it around to be a lot more body friendly. I feel better already. *happy sigh* Plus, it has helped my morning go more quickly. :D I am also hoping that the new position of my CPU will help the CD player. Before it was in a vertical position and now it is in a horizontal position. We will see....
1331 hrs:
AH HA!! *is victorious* The CD player on my PC now plays whole CDs!
Well, I really shouldn't write much more - this is getting gigantic!! *blushes* I'll try not to ramble so much tomorrow. Gomen ne!

no i would not give you false hope on this strange and mournful day0758 hrs:
Ah. So it is already Thursday, eh? This week is going by so quickly for me! I'm kind of stunned, really. I'm doing good with quitting smoking. I haven't had a cigarette at work all week and stopped having cigarettes outside of work yesterday. I have nic-fits here and there, but mostly, it feels ok. I'm suspicious. It's almost TOO easy - kind of like in horror films when it gets too quiet or the calm before a big summer storm. Hm....well, we will see.
Can't think of much else to say at this point. I'm not going to make the same mistake as yesterday of not saving this as a draft and then losing it to a program error. As much as this is mostly ramble....
0859 hrs:
Guh. *dies trying to stay awake* Man....I need to stop staying up late reading BL manga. I haven't gone to sleep until after midnight every day this week. It's finally really hitting me - like a ton of bricks. I can barely keep my eyes open and I yawn every few minutes. *sad sigh* Also, have found out that Justin Timberlake's beats can put me right to sleep - even the dancier stuff.
I don't think my tiredness is helped any by the fact that the office is cold this morning. I'm sitting here in my heavy wool pullover thingy and have my knit hat on in an effort to warm up.
Well....suppose I should get back at it. Maybe a little walk around the office will help to wake and warm me up.
0916 hrs:
Tried going back to working on a project, but just couldn't keep my eyes open, so I got up and walked around a bit (bathroom break, etc) and talked to the office chatterbox for a few minutes. We talked about cats because we are some of the only cat owners in the office. I feel much more awake now. I am happy to see that it is past 9am. Usually time goes by much more quickly once 10am hits. *crosses fingers*
1051 hrs:
YATTA!!! \o/ I just found a way to get around the restrictions on my PC for setting my own wallpaper. Before, I was going through the "properties" dialog box to set a wallpaper and it would only let me choose from the standard Windows wallpapers and a few pre-installed and approved company logos. Today it occurred to me while looking at a picture of my cat (yes, I have pictures of my cat saved on my work computer - I need
something to look at that will cheer me up on bad work days) that I should try right clicking on the picture and choose "Set as Desktop Background". It worked! Yay! This makes me happy. Now I can look at my cat's sweet face whenever I minimize all my work windows.
1327 hrs:
It's been so long since I listened to a full Dave Matthews Band album. How amazing...I forget how enjoyable their music is. Usually, I skip over listening to DMB because I just think of how over-played some of their songs were on the radio. I don't remember that all the other songs on the album are so much better! Maybe I'll make tonight a DMB re-discovery night and play all of the albums I own in a row (I think it's 8 albums total...).
Today's playlist:
U2 - War
Justin Timberlake - Justified <--I think I'm going to get rid of this CD - it's too sleep-inducing for me... Paul Simon - Negotiations and Love Songs 1971-1986 Dave Matthews Band - Crash Dave Matthews Bank - Under the Table and Dreaming
Yoshida Brothers - III
